Understanding Metal Allergy
Nickel Free for Sensitive Ears

Nickel Free for Sensitive Ears. If you are sensitive to metals (allergic) I only recommend titanium or niobium. I also carry plastic ear wires if that is what you require for your ears. For non-sensitive ears I also have sterling silver.
• Why Titanium or Niobium – both of these metals are pure metals, not alloys. This means there is only ONE kind of metal present in the earring stud post or ear wire. I use only surgical grade Titanium or Niobium in my earrings. I can not wear any other metals and my skin is VERY sensitive. So I make my own earrings! And some for you too! Allergy free! Nickel free! These metals are used for surgical implants. (Note if you have a metal allergy be sure to tell your doctor – it is SHOCKING how often nickel is found as part of metal implants!) Titanium is a grey metal that is as strong as steel and will not tarnish.
• Niobium - lead free, nickel free, cadmium free, and meet the EU Nickel Directive. Niobium is a nickel-free inert metal. It is very resistant to corrosion and other reactions, and is used in medical implants. Niobium is not plated or painted, so will not flake or chip. It is anodized, meaning it is colored by dipping it into an electrically charged "bath." Because it contains no nickel, lead, or other additives, most people with metal allergies can safely wear niobium. I currently only have raw niobium which is a grey metal color.
• Plastic ear wires/posts – I currently have plastic ear wires and posts. They are good for those that are ultrasensitive to metals. However I do not recommend them as they easily break. Plastic ear wires will be sent with an extra set of ear wires for when you break one. Additional extra sets are available for purchase.
• Sterling Silver – This metal is 92.5% silver and 7.5% other metals – usually copper. However the problem is the word “other metals”. Not all sterling silver has the same composition. For me personally I can wear some silver earrings, but not others. This was extremely frustrating as I bought eight pairs of pretty earrings before I found this out. So If you like sterling silver I have it for you. If you are very sensitive to metal I can not recommend it. Gold is like sterling silver – it has other metals. So I can not recommend it. Gold is available by special request only.
• Generic Metal – Nickel free ear wires are available. I am phasing this out as I am no longer making any generic metal earrings.
• Titanium post with stainless steel plate to attach to the earring front. Hypoallergenic. Titanium ASTM F67 Grade 1 Post. 420 Stainless Steel Pad.
• 420 stainless steel – has Iron with 12-14% chromium, 0.15% C, <1.0% Mn, <1.0% Si, <0.04% P, <0.03% S – nickel free stainless steel used for making surgical instruments.
